Lip blush and lip tattoo removal

Neoderma removes lip blush and other permanent lip color with the PicoWay laser, whether it has faded to a cool cast, spread past the lip line or simply stopped suiting you. Sessions are $350 with numbing and aftercare included; most cosmetic tattoo clients need 2–4, and you can aim for full removal or lighten it for new work.

Why does lip blush change color?

Lip blush is usually marketed as the soft choice: a sheer, semi-permanent tint expected to fade within a year or two, and many people find that it does. Others find the pigment hanging on well past the soft stage, in a shade they never picked. Hardly any of them chose a careless artist. Most researched carefully and were happy with the color at first.

What changes is the pigment. Lip pigments are mixed to look warm and flattering when fresh. Over time the warm tones tend to fade first, which can leave a cooler cast against your natural lip: gray, mauve, ashy, sometimes faintly blue. “Semi-permanent” describes the intended soft stage rather than the pigment itself, which can linger for years.

The outline can shift as well: color creeps a little past the natural border and blurs the edge, or the border itself was drawn bigger or higher than suits you now. Heavily defined, saturated lip lines also just look like they belong to another moment.

Lip blush removal at Neoderma: saturated, over-drawn lip pigment cleared back to a natural lip color and border. Individual results vary.

Why is lip blush removal different from brow removal?

An odd brow can be disguised with pencil or powder. Pigment under a lip shows through any lipstick and jumps out in photos, so people who tolerated a strange brow for years tend to run short of patience with a lip much sooner.

The tissue differs as well. Lips are mucosal, thin and full of blood vessels, so they swell more readily than brows: some swelling after each session is normal, and it goes down as the lip heals.

How does PicoWay remove lip pigment?

PicoWay sends its energy in picosecond pulses, measured in trillionths of a second, and breaks the pigment up mechanically instead of heating it. With less heat involved, the tissue around the pigment is put at less risk, and that matters more on a lip.

The machine is the easier part. Permanent makeup inks vary between artists, brands and decades, so two lip tattoos that look the same in the mirror can react like different materials under a laser, and the wrong settings can drive some pigments darker instead of clearing them. That oxidation is hard to reverse. The work is done by licensed medical providers, at a practice that has performed laser tattoo removal since 2001.

Full removal, or lighten it for new lip work?

You don't have to go back to bare lips. Many lip clients would rather have the color turned down than taken off: lightened enough to lift a cool cast, or to leave a new artist a clean surface. That plan is shorter, uses fewer sessions and costs less overall. Your provider will say at the consultation which route suits what you want next, and when new work is planned, Neoderma will coordinate timing with your PMU artist.

Neoderma describes the goal as fading and lightening, and doesn't promise that every trace will go. If it is the lip's shape that bothers you rather than its color, that belongs in a conversation about dermal fillers with Neoderma's injectors; a laser doesn't change shape.

How many sessions does lip blush removal take?

Most cosmetic tattoo clients need 2–4 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Light work sometimes clears in one or two; dense or layered color can need more. The count depends on the ink's color and quality, how deep it sits in the skin and how it has aged.

Neoderma won't give you a session count from a photo, because saturation depth doesn't show in an image; yours comes from an in-person look at the pigment.

How much does lip blush removal cost?

Lip blush removal is $350 a session with numbing and aftercare products included, the same as brows; eyeliner removal is priced separately, at $795 for the first session and $595 after. Lightening the color for new lip work is a shorter plan than full removal, so it costs less overall, and financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit.

What happens at a lip blush removal appointment?

Most of the visit is waiting for the numbing to work; the laser itself is brief.

The stages of a lip blush removal visit at Neoderma Advanced Skin Care
StageWhat happens
Arrive an hour earlyTopical numbing goes on and needs time to take effect.
TreatmentThe laser part of the visit is short.
Straight afterSome swelling, which settles as the lip heals.
Days 1–3A thin scab may appear; leave it to fall off without picking.
Weeks 6–8The pigment keeps fading, then you return for the next session.

Before you come in, skip lipstick, tint, stain and every other lip product, so your provider can see the true pigment. Afterwards, give your lips 48 hours away from direct sun, makeup, saunas, hot tubs and anything that makes you sweat heavily.

Two 90-day waits frame the process: a fresh lip tattoo needs 90 days to heal before removal can start, and after your final session the lips need about 90 days again before any new work. The two 90-day rules explain both.

Lip blush removal FAQ

Does lip blush fade on its own?

For plenty of people the soft color fades more or less as promised, over a year or two. For others, leftover pigment can stay for years as a cast that waiting never seems to shift, which is when lightening or removal comes in.

Can lip blush that turned gray or mauve be fixed?

Often. The color can be lightened enough to lift a cool cast without taking the lips back to bare, or full removal can be the aim; Neoderma talks about fading and lightening rather than promising that every trace will go. Which route fits you is decided at the consultation.

Can I wear lipstick to my appointment?

No. Come without lipstick, tint, stain or any other lip product, so the true pigment can be seen, and keep makeup off the treated skin for 48 hours after each session.

Come with bare lips. A licensed medical provider at Neoderma in Anaheim looks at the pigment in person, tells you honestly whether it is two sessions or five, and whether lightening or full removal fits, at $350 a session.
